Hire an Expert for VCT Tile Removal

Many homes have Vinyl Composition Tile (VCT); above or beneath hardwood and tile flooring. These pliable vinyl tiles may look harmless enough, but VCT  can contain cancer-causing asbestos. Particularly for VCT installed before 1984, the risk of asbestos makes it dangerous for homeowners to attempt tile removal on their own. Instead, you should hire an expert to remove VCT from your home.

Why can’t you remove the tiles yourself?

In addition to containing asbestos in the tile itself, VCT often have asbestos in the adhesive, as well. Rather than diminishing over time, the asbestos in these tiles and adhesive can become even stronger as the years go by. The removal process releases asbestos into the air, making it dangerous to be in the vicinity while removal is underway. The substances used to remove the tiles are caustic and can cause health problems among people exposed to these materials for an extended time period.

How do experts remove VCT tiles?

Depending on the age and condition of the tiles, experts may use a variety of removal techniques including solvents, scrapers, heaters, and possibly grinders. Most removals occur in two stages: removal of the tiles themselves, followed by removal of the adhesive. A tile removal expert can advise you on which techniques are necessary to remove VCT from a particular location.

Are there any risks to the adjacent flooring?

Because the tile removal process requires complete eradication of asbestos, there may be risk of damage to the underlying flooring, particularly if it is wood. Floor scrapers may create scratches in wood surfaces, and solvents may damage the finish of underlying stone layers. While there is a risk of damage to the substrate, the risk of health damage from asbestos is far greater. A tile removal expert can advise you on the potential damage depending on your unique circumstances.
It can be unsettling to learn that your home contains a potentially dangerous substance like asbestos. However, VCT removal expert can walk you through the removal process and help you literally breathe easier in your own home.

Choosing the Right Junk Removal Company

Now that the holiday seasons are over one can be sure that there will be plenty of trash in and out of the home in the next.  Along with all the disposable decorations and trash from parties, there will be items that have gotten damaged and cannot be repaired like plastic chairs or wooden items.
For junk removal after the holidays there are a few options.   One is to hire a truck to collect the trash. However, renting a truck service is very expensive because you have to pay for labor and the dump fees. For a lot of trash or if you have large items, a dumpster is a cheaper option. One will want to choose a company that is competent and prompt. Here are several areas to check when selecting a company for junk removal.

Quality Customer Service

In addition to the complaints and compliments that one receives from family and friends, one should gauge the junk removal company with the information and updates on its website. Flexibility, availability and communication are important factors for a good company.

Capabilities

Any company can pick a few boxes of junk and dump them.  However, if the site of the trash is difficult to reach an access path may need to be created. Most of the time a dumpster company will place the dumpster in a convenient location and the trash has to be brought to the dumpster. Whether one is having a simple job or lots of junk removed, seek a company that has the equipment to complete the job.

Pricing

The pricing goes hand-in-hand with the volume of junk in cubic yardage. Companies would usually do a survey of the amount of junk that one has and make an estimate. Do not accept any offer that is not based on the volume of junk that one has. Moreover, reject quotes based on other variables such as time taken to remove trash and the manpower used.

Insurance Protection

It is important to hire firms that are both insured and bonded. The liability insurance policy protects the homeowner should the company damage property on site or any of the workers are injured in the course of removing the junk.

Recycling

Look at the recycling policy of the company. If some of the junk can be reused or recycled hire a firm that has an environment-friendly dumping policy and connects with recycling facilities, scrappers, and donation centers. Such items will help the less fortunate or better, get recycled to save on the landfill space.

Five Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Winter

As the days get shorter and turn into cold winter nights we are reminded that there are several tasks that should be accomplished before the upcoming winter takes hold. There are a few things that will help us save money by cutting heating costs. Take the time needed to look over this list and gather a few items to help you winterize your home. Not only is it important to help save energy it is also important to keep your family warm and healthy during these harsh winter months.
Take a look at the heating system to be sure it is working properly. Check to see if the pilot lights are correctly working in older gas or oil heating systems. In the newer gas and oil systems check the thermo-coupling that helps fire off the heating system. Now is also a good time to check the air filters in the system. Even though the unit is heating instead of cooling the same air flow is present with the heater as with the air conditioning. In most cases the same air exchanger is being used.
Take a look at all exterior windows and doors to see if there are any cracks that have developed around the door and window frames. At different times of the year the caulking around our windows and doors will expand and crack. When this happens the cracks will need to be caulked to prevent any unwanted air infiltration from the outside. If you have wooden windows you will need to check and replace any loose spackling.
One thing that is often overlooked is the exterior faucets. The faucets often are left exposed even after the rest of the pipes are insulated and protected. Faucet covers can be purchased at the local building material store that can easily keep the faucets from freezing and cracking causing extensive damage. If the covers cannot be purchased wrap the faucets with old towels or blankets to help protect them.
Drain exterior water lines such as irrigation systems and lawn sprinklers. If the water is removed from these line you will not have the danger of the lines freezing and bursting requiring them to be replaced.
Check your roof to make sure there are no holes or loose shingles.  If there are loose shingles or metal pieces be sure to secure them before the harsh winter conditions do any further damage to the roof. It is also a good idea to brace the gutters and downspouts.  In winter, gutters become full of snow and ice making the gutters heavy without proper bracing the gutters could collapse from the extra weight.
After taking care of things around the house, it is time to hit the perimeter and the yards of our home. By now there are probably a few trashbags full of  that came from the gutters as well as the roof.  Now is the last chance we have to rake up the leaves that have fallen as well as any fallen limbs around the yard. Dead limbs need to be trimmed from trees around the home to prevent damage from fallen limbs.
Now the question remains as to what to do with all the debris that has been collected during your repairs and clean-up. If you live in the Atlanta, Georgia are there is a simple answer contact Vine Disposal https://vinedisposal.com/service-areas.html who specializes in debris removal. Check with them to see if they can help with the debris removal you need.

Choosing a 30-Yard Dumpster Rental

One of the biggest parts of a new construction or remodeling job is getting rid of the trash and debris that accumulates throughout the construction project. The best way to handle all this debris is to rent a dumpster. When renting a dumpster you want to make sure that you rent a dumpster large enough to require only one pick-up.  Since dumpster rentals usually charge delivery and pickup fees, having only one pickup will save you money. A 30 yard dumpster is one of the most commonly rented sizes when it comes to dealing with debris from construction or remodeling projects.  A 30-yard dumpster holds 30 cubic yards of materials and debris. This is equal to about 10-15 pickup loads of waste.  A 30-yard dumpster will easily hold the debris from one of the following projects:
  • 2 layers of roofing shingles from an average sized home.
  • Whole-home cleanout project.
  • Large deck or pool removal.
  • Small home demolition.
  • Interior renovation project.
  • New home construction project debris.
There are also two styles of dumpsters that are available for rent.
Open-top roll off dumpsters.  This is the most common type of 30-yard dumpster used.   It is delivered on a flatbed truck that rolls the dumpster off the back of the truck into place.  These bins usually have a door at one end that will open for easier loading. This is really convenient when loading large and bulky items. Great for loading heavy items such as home appliances.
Dump trailers.  Because it is on wheels a dump trailer is more suited for some sites.  If the ground is not stable enough to hold up a dumpster delivery truck then a dumpster trailer is the answer. Dump trailers are less common than roll-off dumpsters and are usually only available in smaller sizes.
The average cost of a 30-yard roll off dumpster container is $400-$500. There are other charges that may apply. Charges for weight overages, fuel surcharges, late fees and the types of debris may apply. Each company varies with the policies they have. You need to prepare enough room in your driveway to accommodate the dumpster. A 30-yard dumpster is 22’ x 8’ long plus you will need enough additional space to walk around the dumpster.
Whatever the size of your project there is a dumpster size to help you get the job done. If you have any question as to the size you need along with the pricing contact Vine Disposal. They will answer any questions you have about any dumpster concerns.

How to Rent a Dumpster - Everything You Need to Know About the Dumpster Rental Service

Renting a dumpster, seems pretty simple right? Well, before you place your dumpster order there are a few things you need to know.
SIZE
For starters, consider the size. Typically, temporary dumpster rentals will come in five sizes...10 15, 20, 30 and 40 cubic yard containers. While 10, 20, 30 and 40 yard dumpsters are common, the 15 cubic yard containers may be hard to find.
Dumpster dimensions (may vary slightly):
    10 yard dumpster - approx. 10 ft long x 8 ft wide x 3.5 ft high
    15 yard dumpster - approx. 15 ft long x 8 ft wide x 3.5 ft high
    20 yard dumpster - approx. 22 ft long x 8 ft wide x 3.5 ft high
    30 yard dumpster - approx. 22 ft long x 8 ft wide x 5 ft high
    40 yard dumpster - approx. 22 ft long x 8 ft wide x 6.5 ft high
WEIGHT LIMIT
Every dumpster will have a weight limit. Meaning the "stuff" you put in the dumpster will ultimately be weighed and if the weight limit for your dumpster exceeds your rental agreement you will likely face an additional charge. Make sure you ask what your weight limit is on your dumpster rental before you order. The weight limit can range anywhere from 2 to 12 tons!
RENTAL PERIOD
How long do you get to keep the dumpster? Most companies will allow you to keep the dumpster for 5-7 days. If you're lucky, you might find a company that will let you keep your dumрѕtеr for uр tо 2 weeks. Whаt happens іf уоu wаnt tо kеер іt lоngеr thаn the agreed tіmе frаmе? Extrа fееѕ. Normally, you will incur a daily rate charge from anywhere from $5 to $15 per day, after the initial rental period.
FEES, FEES, FEES = ASK, ASK, ASK!
Some people might say that the dumpster rental services industry is known for all types of additional or add-on fees. So be a smart consumer and ask the following questions.
Is there a delivery fee? A lot of dumpster rental companies will charge a delivery fee on top of the rate they quote you, so be sure to ask. Delivery fees can range anywhere from $25 to $50 or more. Is there a daily rental fee? Some companies will charge a daily rental fee so be sure to ask if the rental charge is included or not. Is tax included? Again, ask if tax is included in the quoted price.
What can't go in the dumpster? Depending on the company and/or city rules and regulations there will most certainly be some items you cannot place in the container. Some typical prohibited items include: paint, oil, gasoline, any hazardous waste, any flammable liquids, and toxic materials, car tires, car batteries, asbestos, etc.  Once again, always ask about a prohibited items list. Placing any of these items in the dumpster will more than likely result in an additional charge.
MOVING FORWARD
Renting a dumpster can be a very useful service for a lot of different projects. But just like any other purchase, remember the old phrase "buyer beware". Ask questions and make sure you get an all inclusive, flat rate on your dumpster order. Use the questions and guidelines above to help navigate through the dumpster rental process and you should come out a happy and knowledgeable customer.

Spring Clean Up for Your Home and Yard

Spring is here and it’s time to take care of those spring cleaning chores before the summer fun begins.  Most people think of spring cleaning as only inside their home, but cleaning up the yard also has to be added to the list.  So, here are a few tips to make the clean out run smoothly and quickly.
Besides general cleaning, there are certain items around the house that should be checked during the spring.  These include:  changing the heating/air conditioning air filters, cleaning lint out of the dryer vent, dusting the ceiling fans, cleaning air and fan vents in the kitchen and bathrooms, washing windows, vacuuming refrigerator vents, and wiping down walls and cabinets.
This is also the time of year to declutter closets, cabinets, garages & basements.  Using a system to sort unwanted items (trash, donate, or recycle) is a good way to move through clutter quickly. Sorting the items into containers that will then be removed from the home is a good way to only handle items once.  If you foresee a large quantity of trash you may want to use a dumpster rental service - you place the items in the dumpster and let the service haul it away.
Once the inside of your home is in shape it is time to move outside.  Those winter months leave a lot of debris around the yard that needs to be removed.  Are there any trees or large plants that were damaged during snow and ice storms?  Those will need to be collected and disposed of.  What about your flower bed or garden - are there plants that have died off?  Those need to be pulled out in order to make room for the new flowers that will be popping up once the weather is warmer.  It is also the time of year where some trees and flower bushes need to be pruned to keep them healthy and growing strong.  With all those plant trimmings and debris it is a good time to call for a dumpster.

Renovation Trends of 2018-2019

If you are looking around your home and you feel that it is time for a change, renovations can transform your home into the house that you have always envisioned. A renovation can breathe new life into your home and it can also increase the value of your home if you decide to resell. If you are unsure about where you would want to start on your renovations, here are some popular renovation trends for 2018.
Outdoor Renovation Trends
If you feel like it is time to transform your backyard into a comfortable place for entertaining, now is the time to start planning in order to have the perfect entertaining area in time for summer. You can renovate your existing backyard by updating or creating a new patio. Paver stones are a popular option for creating new patios, since the stones are easy to remove and replace if they are damaged, plus they are designed to better withstand the outdoor elements as opposed to concrete. Another popular trend with outdoor spaces is making them enclosed and contained, while also bringing some of the creature comforts of the indoors outside. Create your own enclosed patio, sunroom or entertaining space you can utilize no matter what the weather. Install a fireplace and some ceiling fans to maintain perfect climate control in this fun new entertaining area. Select furniture for your outdoor space that is just as comfortable and inviting as you would have inside your home.
Kitchen Trends
2018 is seeing a change in kitchen trends. While most modern kitchens featured dark granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, this year has focused more on neutral and natural tones. Another trend is mixing glass and metal for things such as lighting fixtures, tiles, sinks, and appliances to create a classic and retro vibe. If you are stuck in a confining kitchen, another popular trend is to remove walls to create a larger kitchen. This open floor plan allows you to entertain your guests while you are putting the finishing touches on appetizers or mixing up some delicious cocktails.
Bathroom Trends
People are personalizing their bathrooms into places of relaxation - a retreat to temporarily escape from their daily problems. The trend for 2018 is for people to use more natural materials in their bathroom such as wood and stone. Many recently updated bathrooms are transformed to look like a sauna or a spa, helping to set a relaxing atmosphere. Another trend is using metal and glass tiles to create a smooth and shiny surface.
You don’t have to be stuck in a boring, outdated home any longer. Take advantage of some of these different trends for 2019 to create the home that you have always wanted. Talk to a contractor in your area to get an idea of how much your renovation project will cost. You will want to make sure that if you are doing any expansions that you check with your town’s building codes before you undergo any major project.

How to Calculate the Dumpster Size Needed to Remove Asphalt Roofing Shingles?

A single layer of asphalt roofing shingles on a small house - 1500 square foot roof (150 squares) would require a 10 yard dumpster. Roofs up to 3000 square foot (300 squares) would need a 20 yard dumpster.

If multiple layers need to be removed, multiply the size needed by the number of layers.

For example, a 3000 square foot roof with 2 layers to be removed would need:

20 yards x 2 = 40 yard dumpster.
